History
Project Infinity
Sophie was designed under the codename Project Infinity
Sophie was designed as a test workstation for multithreaded software running in parallel, and to survive in summer without air conditioning. The goals for Project Infinity;
- Run with minimal maintenance even if unattended
- Ability to run in very hot environments
Sophie was originally intended to run for 5 years. She was retired in 2019 after just over 8 years of operation.
Cost
Sophie cost over $3,000 AUD at time of construction.
Current Status
Sophie has been retired. The system remains intact, in storage. At the time it was disconnected from power all components were functional.
