System Sophie was a Flagship Workstation operating as part of the Seda's Enhancements test network.

History

Project Infinity

Sophie was designed under the codename Project Infinity

Sophie was designed as a test workstation for multithreaded software running in parallel, and to survive in summer without air conditioning. The goals for Project Infinity;

  • Run with minimal maintenance even if unattended
  • Ability to run in very hot environments

Sophie was originally intended to run for 5 years, but this time period was extended in 2015 due to operational needs.

She was retired in 2019 after just over 8 years of operation.

Cost

Sophie cost over $3,000 AUD at time of construction.

Current Status

Sophie has been retired. The system remains intact, in storage. At the time it was disconnected from power all components were functional.
