Target is either a system or a purpose. Something with a target of 'research' will be used to test some function or upcoming feature or project. If the target is a system, then it upgrades or replaces an existing component.

Items are either Legacy or Current. A Legacy item is an older product no longer in production. A Current item is readily available.
