Seda's Enhancements Version 6 (SE6) was the second version of Seda's Enhancements available in 2019.

Development

Compatibility

SE6 was compatible with all the same hardware as SE5.

Scope

SE6 ran on Debian 10 and 11 (during testing).

New Features

This version of the scripts introduced the following components for the first time:

Changelog

Seda's Enhancements 6 Changelog
Date Version Changes Fixes Notes
6.0.0 (all) Removed remaining references to Delta Network. Scripts are now more generic and make use of more official Debian ways of doing things. Root permissions are no longer used for most tasks.

(all) Many scripts removed or made smaller.
(seda-about) About dialog entirely recreated to be faster, better, and provide more information.
(seda-age) Script changed to measure system via the age of the firmware as reported by the system itself, no more manual indexing required.
(conky.conf) Automatic configuration of Conky has been discontinued. It will be manually done for each system as part of initial configuration.
(seda-chat) New secure and private chat client designed for use between users of different systems made by Seda. Exclusive bonus to customers.
(seda-bd) Ripped BDs will now be compressed.
(seda-dvd) Ripped DVDs will now be compressed.
(seda-ifc/seda-factor) Removed. Please use one of the other many popular integer factorisation tools available.

None None
6.0.1 (all) Compressed scripts to take up less space.

(seda-optical) seda-dvd, seda-bd, have been replaced by seda-optical which now includes functionality to rip normal audio CDs.
(seda-installer) Now attempts to create a decent Conky configuration.

None None
6.1.0 (seda-changelog) Only displays the change log for the current major version (e.g. 6.x.x). (seda-optical) Fixed Audio CD handling. None
6.1.1 None (conky.conf) Fixed disk detection. None
6.1.2 None (conky.conf) Fixed CD ripping directory. None
6.1.3 (seda-about) Now shows if the system was built by Seda - and if so, what class of system it is considered.

(conky.conf) System class now shown in Conky.

None None
6.1.4 (seda-status) Changed how the information is displayed to be more consistent with other dialogs.

(seda-update) Added descriptive text to explain what the script is doing.
(seda-installer) Added sensor detection to correctly pre-fill Conky with the right stuff.
(conky.conf) Added temperatures.

(seda-about) Corrected spacing for the latest versions of Zenith. This may display weirdly if your system is not up to date or has different fonts available. None
6.1.5 Restricted Edition (all) Internal test release. None None
6.1.6 (seda-wine) New script refreshes a Wine prefix and applies some immediate winetricks workarounds, such as DXVK. None None
6.1.7 Restricted Edition (all) Internal test release. None None
6.2.0 (seda-quiet) New script throws the system into the lowest power mode for both CPU and GPU. This is a new feature under development and additional ways of instantly lowering power consumption and noise are being investigated. The goal is to have this script become automatic in future - so when you drop back to your desktop, your computer drops into the lowest power mode unless certain other applications are launched (Wine, Steam, Firefox, VLC, etc...). None None
6.2.1 None (all) Fixed various typing errata. None
6.2.2 (seda-about) This can now be launched from the terminal. Running About System from the menu will show the GUI version. From the terminal will show a text only version. You can also run with --gui.

(seda-auto) Returns the system to automatic power modes. Requires root.
(seda-loud) Maximum performance for CPU and GPU. Requires root.
(seda-quiet) Changed to be consistent with seda-loud/seda-auto. Requires root.

None None
6.2.3 (all) Minor help text improvements.

(seda-achat) Minor security improvements.
(seda-installer) Now outputs temperature information to any script, not just Conky.
(seda-strip) Now gets sensor information during the install process.

None None
6.3.0 (seda-weather) New script allows getting a pretty close reading on relevant local weather. Accuracy will increase over time. This uses the wttr.in weather service, created by Igor Chubin.

(conky) Changed to pull information from seda-weather.

None None
6.3.1 (seda-installer) Now modifies /etc/sudoers to allow certain programs to run at higher privilage levels. Note that this is a slight security risk.

(seda-7days) New script provides increased performance for 7DaysToDie by setting specific performance modes.
(seda-bnet) New script provides increased performance for Battle.Net and associated games by setting specific performance modes.

None None
6.3.2 (all) Internal test release. None None
6.4.0 (all) Changed all guidance text to be consistent across the scripts. System messages will now very clearly come from the system.

(seda-perc) As above, but additionally this script has been improved to more clearly show which numbers were calculated.
(seda-weather) Now provides a good report when launched from the terminal, if you don't like the Conky version.
(seda-wine) Now provides more details about what it will do before jumping right into it, and gives you the chance to abort. Can also now call certain Winetricks commands.
(seda-version) Updated for consistency.
(seda-crop) New script uses ffmpeg to autocrop a video and remove black bars around it, allowing it to take up more of the screen when played. This script is experimental and does not work that well, so should not be relied upon at this stage in development.
(seda-wall) New script creates a wallpaper based on your system, unique to your system and gives you the option of setting it active. Run from terminal.
(seda-bnet/seda-7days) Removed. Use seda-tweak instead.
(seda-tweak) This script can now be called by programs such as Steam, by prepending it to the game launch command. You must also call --tr or --fx or --classic, to choose which processor you want to apply tweaks for.
(seda-achat) Changed to make each system use a unique key. Systems can communicate directly with each other, or to the server. The general chat room has been removed.
(conky) The display of Available Updates and Orphaned Packages has been removed as it was resource intensive.

None None
29 Dec 2019 6.4.1 None (seda-wall) Fixed script so that it no longer leaves half-processed images in the home folder. None

Notes

SE6 was the first version of the scripts to ship with documentation.
